On Monday May 17, 2010 the Joomla! Project announced the beta release of Joomla! version 1.6.

This upcoming release of Joomla! offers many new and improved features compared to the 1.5 branch of the application. Some of the new features include Access Control, unlimited nesting of Categories, a one-click software extension update system.
